Utton’s begins its history when it was established by Patricia Woodward and Robert Utton, the namesake of the business. When Robert passed away, Patricia stepped up and took over the business. Her strong familial values set the foundation for what Utton’s would be: A small locally owned business that treated its customers and staff with honesty and respect.
Keith Brown started working at Utton’s Muffler’s in 1991 and was very impressed with Utton’s consideration of both its employees and its customers. In 2004 Utton’s Muffler moved from 33 River Street to 170 River Street, as the business had outgrown the limited space that was available there. During this period the business also had a name change from Utton’s Mufflers to Utton’s Automotive, to let our customers know that we were a general automotive repair shop and not a shop that focused entirely on mufflers and exhaust work.
In 2012 Keith and Amy Brown purchased Utton’s Automotive. It has always been our firmly established belief that both staff and customers should be treated as family. Vehicles worked on at Utton’s should be worked on as if they were our own cars. Our mission is to provide affordable, reliable vehicle repair for our customers.
At Utton’s, we also strongly believe in offering mentorship opportunities for the young adults in the area. Keith has mentored multiple students from Union 32 and Montpelier High school. Ethan Fielder is one of these students, and is responsible for the outstanding mural on the front of the Utton’s Automotive building. Noggo Hershey is another student , who currently works part time at Utton’s when he is available after school. We look forward to other potential opportunities to have more young adults learn in the shop with us.
